@epidrom Well I gotta correct myself
I meant “the whole “continent”" not “hole”
January 25th, 2012
epidrom Says :
Yes, North America indeed is bigger. But Europe as a construct of a political Union as well as the “continent” is rather an ideology then a real continent. Actually “Europe” is just a part of Eurasia which is the biggest continent on Earth, currently. So I if we think this thought to an end and europe is unifiying further this way, then at some time the hole “continent” will be like the USA. So at this point Europe is bigger than the USA.

@ursa41 Lastly, I find it ironic and hypocritical when people criticise Americans for not making an effort to learn about other countries, yet you and many Europeans never make an effort to learn about the United States and then dismiss it as one giant cesspool of ignorance. Tienes razon cuando dijiste que los estadounidenses no hablan otras idiomas, pero yo hablo espanol.

ianc5722 Says :
@ursa41 I know what I am talking about when I say that the US does in fact have a culture, as I have traveled and lived throughout my own country. The USA’s culture is incomparable to that of Europe’s, but it has its own culture nonetheless. I understand when Europeans say that their countries are older and more culturally developed than mine, but I can’t help but correct people who yield logic to cultural arrogance by stating that the US is a cesspool lacking any culture whatsoever.

ianc5722 Says :
@ursa41 Rap and hip-hop are genres of music, and music is a category of culture, so rap and hip-hop are cultural by definition. I’ll concede that the universities were initially established by European academics, but what about the technological achievements that have been made since then? The US is currently the world leader in medical and aviation technologies, thanks to American academics, not European.

@ursa41 I have witnessed many European tourists acting the same way in New York, so do not take the behavior of American tourists and say that they represent “the avg American schmuck”. Also, some European books are originally from East Asia and the Middle East, just as some American books are from Europe.

ursa41 Says :
@ianc5722 Oh Please!!! It’s all SUPERFICIAL. The U.S. is barely (ONLY!!) 240 years old!! OK, America has outstanding literature, I’ll give it that; the cuisine originates from a mixture of European, Creole and African dishes;college campuses were established by academics ORIGINATING from Europe. And then,(this one takes the cake! lol) Rap and hip-hop–you call that trash “cultural”? lol You’re the one that’s MISINFORMED!!! Do some REAL travelling abroad like I have, then WE’LL TALK!!!

ursa41 Says :
@ianc5722 …And some fo the music and books are from Spain and other foreign countries!!! I’m international, NEVER considered myself “American” (unless I’m son of Native Americans which I am not; my parents were immigrants from Spain). I’m actually more European-minded than anything else. I know, read and write Spanish, Porugese and Italian and, unlike the avg American schmuck, I make an effort to learn about their cultures as well; in fact, I speak them WITH OUT AN ACCENT!!! Cabron!!

ianc5722 Says :
@ursa41 You’re an idiot, some of the music and books listed on your channel are uniquely American. About the tourists who attempt to speak the language, so what if they splatter the language? At least they are made an attempt, right? It is to my understanding that Americans are chastised for not attempting the local language, but I just now found out that we are bashed for doing so. We’re damned if we do and we’re damned if we don’t!

ianc5722 Says :
@ursa41 You are beyond misinformed about other countries, so here are some examples of American culture:
Literature: Mark Twain, Edgar Allen Poe, John Steinbeck.
Cuisine: Contrary to what many Europeans believe, America has great cuisine (New England, Southwestern, Southern home cooking, etc.).
Education: Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, the MIT, the Smithsonian.
Music: Americans invented hip hop/rap and rock. We have artists such as Eminem and Michael Jackson.

ursa41 Says :
I can see why Americans are despised not just in Europe but the world OVER!!! They are culturally-insensitive, not to mention arrogant, greedy and plain stupid..and it’s true. When they TRY to speak a foreign language, they splatter it beyond recognition, like Spanish. I go to Spain every summer to visit family/friends and I could spot them right away; regular European tourists (from Germany, Holland even UK) have more class and more culture;Americans DO NOT!! Then again, America is cultureless.
