Evzones Evzoni Army Guards Greek Tomb Unknown Soldier War Heros Athens by BK Bazhe.com

Evzones Evzoni – www.BAZHE.com Change of Guards, Tomb of Unknown Soldier, Athens. The Evzones, or Evzoni, is the name of elite ceremonial units of the Greek Army. Proedriki Froura (Presidential Guard), guards the Greek Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Hellenic Parliament and the Presidential Mansion. The Evzones are also known, colloquially, as Tsoliades. The unit is famous around the world for its unique traditional uniform, which has evolved from the clothes worn by the klephts who fought the Ottoman (Turkish) occupation of Greece. The most visible item of this uniform is the fustanella, a kilt-like garment. Their proven valour and peculiar dress turned them into a popular image for the Greek soldier, especially among foreigners. The name Evzone is first found in Homer, meaning the “well-girt” men, implying an elite status. BKBAZHE is a writer, poet, and artist. Thousands of protesters on Thursday took part in an annual demonstration in the capital Athens to commemorate 1973 crackdown on a student uprising by the military dictatorship that ruled Greece from 1967 to 1974. Some 7000 police – about one for every demonstrator – were monitoring the protest, which comes at the height of a vicious financial crisis that has seen many violent demonstrations. A Brief Guide To Athens – Greece

A Brief Guide To Athens – Greece

Athens

Athens is the capital of Greece. The story of Athens is popular among history books as this city was used to be a superpower in Europe. Experiencing what 3 million inhabitants have experienced is possible with by traveling to Athens with a Eurail pass. As one of the oldest cities in the world, Athens is a place that should not be missed.

History Of Athens

Early signs of cultural urbanity in Athens showed in 1500-1200 BC. It is said that the script that was used to form the present-day Greek language has indications that it was initiated during this era. 1200 to 750 BC is considered the Dark Age in Athens. The Dorians invaded Athens and overthrew the Mycenaeans who settled there for many centuries. Many rivalries existed after that period. However, Athens emerged as a leader in trade and commerce in the Black Sea. Evolution of military ideas also sprung. Between 528-478 BC, democracy started to propagate. However, Persia made threats against Athens that tested the supremacy of the city. The golden age of Athens happened after the Persian Wars. Athens governed over the Byzantium, the grain routes across the Black Sea and all over Greece including Sparta. But when the Peloponnesian War happened, it lost its power as it was ruled by various rulers. Hundreds of events happened for Athens, until 1834 where it was officially proclaimed as the capital city of the Kingdom of Greece.

Things To Do In Athens

Athens is probably one of the best tourist destinations because of its numerous sites. The most famous of all is the Acropolis. It is a site of the ancient ruins situated in a hill at the center of the city. The Acropolis is considered by UNESCO as World Heritage Site. Other architectures worth visiting in Athens are the Parthenon, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Theater of Dionysus and the Great Mitropolis. Museums also swamp the city of Athens – the New Acropolis Museum, Vizantino Museo, Acropolis Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, Benaki Museum, Goulandris Foundation Museum of Cycladic Art, National Gallery of Art and the Numismatic Museum are some of those which speak about what Athens and Greece is. Other landmarks that must be visited are the St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Panathenaic Stadium, the cemetery named The Kerameikos, the flea market

All you need to know about Athens Greece Hotels

All you need to know about Athens Greece Hotels

Athens offers a wide variety of choices for travelers looking to find a suitable hotel to put up in. One can choose from a host of 5 star, 4 star and 3 star hotels depending on their budget and preference. A four star hotel however, may not always be better than one with a three star rating. This is due to the fact that within a category there are different degrees at work. These degrees may not be official but give a fairly accurate description of a hotel. For instance, a 3 star hotel with a grading of B superior is deemed better than a 4 star with C grading. In some cases C category Athens Greece hotels are even better than A category hotels. These grading are mostly based on various factors such as the size of the rooms, the lobby and the quality and pricing of the food served.

Booking your rooms

Booking at any of the Athens Greece hotels is fairly easy with most having their own websites where tourists can book rooms online. Another option is to book through a travel agent. Some of the agents offer the best deals which come out to be a lot cheaper than booking directly with the hotel. But if you are a backpacker with a very shoestring budget and no fixed itinerary then it’s better to book directly with a C category hotel. Booking with a travel agent has a number of other advantages as well. These agencies have access to all the travel schedules and can hence make your booking according to the schedule. If you make a booking on your own you run the chance of planning according to an outdated schedule. Also make sure to book your hotel well in advance before your scheduled arrival in Greece. The Athens Greece hotels can get filled up very quickly and if you arrive without any prior booking you might have to put up in a dump suggested by your taxi driver who obviously gets a decent commission from the hotel. You also wouldn’t want to wander around the city looking for a hotel after a taxing 10 -12 hour flight.
